Marketing for electrical contractors doesn’t need to be complicated or expensive. The one thing I’d tell every new electrical contractor to do first: set up and optimize your Google Business Profile. It’s free, it shows up in local search results for “electrician near me,” and it’s where most residential customers look for contractors. A complete profile with photos of your work, accurate service area, correct hours, and a link to your website will outperform most of your competitors who haven’t bothered.
Reviews are the currency of local service businesses. A 4.8-star profile with 50 reviews will get more calls than a 5.0-star profile with 3 reviews. After every job, ask for a Google review. Text the link to them. Most satisfied customers are happy to do it if you make it easy and ask directly. Respond to every review - good and bad.
Beyond Google: HomeAdvisor/Angi and Thumbtack generate leads but are increasingly competitive and expensive. Build relationships with GCs, remodelers, plumbers, and HVAC contractors in your area - the best referral sources are other trades who get asked “do you know a good electrician?” by their customers.
